Picture this: Dubai, famous for its skyscrapers, luxury malls, and indoor ski slopes, has now added another over-the-top attraction, the world’s largest vertical farm. Yes, in the land where water evaporates faster than gossip, they’re growing lettuce like it’s Vegas in neon lights.
ECO 1 isn’t just big, it’s 30,000 square metres of leafy ambition, producing kale, spinach, and arugula so fresh they probably deserve a VIP lounge. The farm uses 95% less water than traditional farming, meaning Dubai has finally found a way to keep plants hydrated without begging the sky for rain. Even better, no pesticides are needed, because apparently even bugs can’t afford Dubai rent.
With more than a million kilograms of produce expected each year, ECO 1 could make food imports as outdated as camel-delivered mail. Dubai, it seems, has mastered the art of turning deserts into dinner plates, proving once and for all that you can farm in style.
