In the never-ending race to map every inch of our planet, Google Street View once ran into a snag: sand. Lots of it. Cars couldn’t drive it, bikes couldn’t pedal it, drones weren’t quite ready; so Google did what any rational trillion-dollar company would do: they hired a camel. Yes, a literal, hump-equipped, desert-roaming camel named Raffia became the world’s most patient gig worker, trudging across the Liwa Desert in Abu Dhabi with a giant camera strapped to her back.

Imagine explaining that on LinkedIn: “Current position: Street View Photographer. Strengths: endurance, sand tolerance, excellent eyelashes.” Humans may gripe about workplace perks, but Raffia got paid in hay and water breaks, which is honestly better than most internships.

The result? A breathtaking, 360-degree camel’s-eye tour of the desert. Thanks to one four-legged freelancer, millions of us can now “walk” the dunes without getting sand in our socks, or worse, our Wi-Fi routers.
