Sun, surf, and wagging tails collided in Del Mar, California, as the 20th annual Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon turned the beach into a canine version of “Baywatch.” Leading the pack was an intrepid pit bull who carved waves with the kind of swagger that would make Kelly Slater jealous, if Kelly Slater also wore a neon life jacket and stopped mid-wave to bark at seagulls.

Dozens of salty, sandy pups balanced on surfboards with surprising skill, proving that dogs are not only man’s best friend but also surprisingly competent at extreme sports. Spectators cheered wildly as bulldogs hung ten, dachshunds clung for dear life, and golden retrievers looked like they’d been training their whole lives for this moment.

The event wasn’t just about wet fur and glory; it raised funds for the Helen Woodward Animal Center, ensuring more animals find homes. Surf’s up, and apparently, paws up too.
